Area I: Assessment of Needs and Capacity

Description:
The artifact is a paper focusing on food insecurity that impacts food access and dietary quality between reserve-based and urban-based indigenous peoples in southwestern Ontario from my Global Health Health Science course (HSC 420). The paper focuses on the impact of geographical location on food insecurity.
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to analyze a journal article about indigenous people in Canada. Past experience with journal analysis helped with understanding the issue at hand. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to continue analyzing works to better understand various research.

Area II: Planning

Description:
The artifact is a paper with a list of objectives that need to be planned prior to writing out lessons from my Applied Concepts of Community Health Education Health Science course (HSC 440). 
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to list out measurable objectives for lesson writing. Past experience with objective writing helped with writing many objectives. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to understand the importance of foundational work for great success.

Area III: Implementation

Description:
The artifact is a sample learning opportunity based on a mock lesson from my Applied Health Concepts Health Science course (HSC 440). The sample learning opportunity focuses on the impact of e-cigarette and vape use on high school students.
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to create an hour lesson plan. I did not think that I would ever create a mock lesson plan for high school students. Past experience with creating academic worksheets helped with the overall lesson planning. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to apply lesson planning and creation for other fields.

Area IV: Evaluation and Research

Description:
The artifact is a research paper focusing on HIV from my Principles of Epidemiology Health Science course (HSC 500). The research focuses on HIV characteristics, morbidity rates, distribution, and prevention.
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to research into an infectious disease that is still considered an epidemic today. I struggled with formulating current hypotheses explaining the variances of HIV distribution. Past experience with research helped find relevant information on HIV prevalence and distribution of new HIV cases. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to apply researching for other fields.

Area V: Advocacy

Description:
The artifact is an infomercial advocating for behaviors that avoid tobacco smoking from my Drugs and Health Health Science course (HSC 227). The infomercial focuses on the impact of tobacco smoking use and the effects on the body.
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to create an informercial for tobacco. I did not think that I would create an infomercial advocating for behaviors that would steer individuals away from tobacco smoking. Past experience with presentations helped with the overall informative powerpoint. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to apply informative and concise presentations for other fields.

Area VI: Communication

Description:
The artifact is a presentation persuading the audience to be involved in the passing of the Safe Routes to School Expansion Act from my Essential Public Speaking Communication course (COMM 335). The presentation focuses on the impact of creating safe designated school routes for students.
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to research and present a speech on a political matter. I did not think that I would present such material as I lack political knowledge and interest. I would say that the other speeches that lead up to this particular speech helped with the overall confidence in presentation. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to keep the audience engaged with gestures and paced speech.

Area VII: Leadership and Management

Description:
The artifact represents my leadership and management over the library project from my internship at HopeWorks. HopeWorks planned on transforming one of community center's rooms into a visually stunning and functional library with books from the attic and new bookshelves from investors. I took the initiative to lead 4+ other interns managing a system for the library in progress.
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to play the leader role. I did not think that I would ever create a library from a regular room. Past experience with organizing in a medical office helped with setting an overall system. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to continue to seek leadership roles for other fields.

Area VIII: Ethics and Professionalism

Description:
The artifact is a Community Based  Organization (CBO) presentation focusing on OC United from my Community Health Education Health Science course (HSC 401). The presentation focuses on the make up of organizations like OC United.
Reflection:
The artifact challenged me to research a community based organization. Past experience with non-profit organizations helped with understanding the overall organization. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to continue looking into community based organizations and their purpose for other fields.
