Cultural Competency
Description:
The artifact is focusing one of the spring events hosted by our internship. The interns worked extensively to ensure that the event was set up and systematically ready for execution. The organization Grandma's House of Hope in Santa Ana has a program in Anaheim that focuses on the low income and underserved community. The target population that we served mainly consisted of students aged 6 to 14 years old.
Reflection:
The growth I experienced during my internship was immense. I gained leadership skills and confidence, abilities to understand students lacking social skills, and effective collaboration amongst other interns. The students differed in age and race; however, that did not take away from the fact that the students may needs more attention for motor skills, communication skills, or interpersonal skills. Some past experience with students and mathematic assistance helped me better gauge the attention span and energy of the student group. One goal to set from the accomplished work is to continue analyzing different populations and apply the knowledge for other fields.
